Our New Home??

Well, we met with a builder on Monday for a lot in Wilmington. Nothing has even been done on it yet so we get to pick the house style and color and where it falls on the lot down to the floor plan to the tiles in the bathroom and type of deck - it's pretty insane! So, we met with the broker last night and looked at floor plans for 2 hours and we think we've found the best possible combination of all the options. We are going to draw it out today along with our wish list for price quotes - we'll submit that to the builder tonight. Assuming the builder signs off on it, we'll sign the contract and give him money contingent on the architect being able to do exactly what we want. So this could be it, this could be our new home! It will be incredibly fun to construct our house 100% to our liking and spend time picking out appliances and counters and floors and paint colors and vinyl siding/ shutter colors! It's a little hard to let go of the other huge one on a private lot with a lot of character, but I'm sure when it actually comes time to move in I will greatly appreciate that everything is shiny and new and doesn't need a good scrubbing.
The only thing that isn't optimal about this house is the lot/ location. It's not on a side street and it does have neighbors on all 3 sides of the house. Fortunately it's a decent size lot so they're not that close, and there are trees on the lot that we hope we can leave up. However, because the lot is overgrown and unused, it's hard to picture exactly what it will look like when it's leveled and cleaned up.
So, this could be the end of our life-consuming search for our first house! It's exciting and a little scary to let go of all the other options that might be out there. Happily, it's $125,000 less than the other house we put an offer on so that does make me feel a little warm and fuzzy. :)
