NYC, Sunday!

After two very long days, we took some time to sleep in on Sunday morning and got all packed up.  My cousin had recommended a crepe place close to their apartment, and it was well worth the trip.  I had probably the best savory crepes I’ve ever had, but there was one waitress for the whole place so our breakfast turned into quite a long affair.

My cousin had also recommended Fete Paradisio, a carnival featuring historical Parisian rides and the like.  We raced to the ferry after breakfast to head to Governor’s Island, but though we had timed it correctly, they claimed the ferry was full, a fact we doubted after we saw how full they packed it on the return trip.  Oh well.  Half an hour later, we were on the next ferry and finally on our way.

Knowing the rides were the most important part to me, we bought some tickets and got in line for the most touted ride, a carousel featuring bicycles rather than horses!  It had been introduced in France when bicycles were first new and people were skeptical of the new contraptions.  It was a great ride, but the line was over half an hour and we began to realize we were not going to have a leisurely day at the park as we had hoped, since we had to leave NYC early enough in the evening to pick up the dog from boarding.

We rode two more rides, one of which was so miserable I almost asked to get off partway through!!  It was the round ride under the tent that has a lot of centrifugal force, and we mistakenly chose saddle seats rather than the normal “cars” and found the bars on the seat to hurt and push very forcefully as we spun around.  My sunglasses actually flew off too, but happily cleaned the ride and were caught by people in line and safely returned.  After the third ride, we realized we were out of time and had to give away the rest of our tickets and race back to the ferry.

We grabbed our bags and retrieved on car, then stopped at a food truck and a Jamba Juice on the way out of town.  It was a great weekend, and I could have easily stayed another couple days.  It’s always nice to get back to your own home and dog though, but I was very happy with what we got done in the short time we were there!
