Weekend #1 of House Hunting

Serious house hunting has commenced. We hit the ground running Saturday, seeing 5 houses by appointment, and 7 or 8 more on Sunday by open house. All in all, it was actually a little disappointing. Not surprisingly, almost all looked better online than in person but we were still a little surprised by what we found. There were some disgustingly dirty houses, there were A LOT of absolutely bizarre and inefficient floor plans, and quite a bit of unusable acreage due to conservation lands.
My favorite is a new build where we could still customize some of the choices. Cons: the builder is kind of a jerk and it's way at the top of our price range. Anthony's favorite has absolutely no usable yard as it backs right onto conservation land; turns out that's a bigger drawback then we might have originally anticipated. Our favorite from the open houses has the best main floor we've ever seen with a media room that's bigger than we could have ever imagined, but the second floor bedrooms are pea-sized and oddly shaped. Seems we need to keep looking to find our new home, so we have expanded our search to Burlington now. Some seem very promising already, but I think this search will be on some what of a hold until after the holiday weekend. All in all, very disappointed with the way builders build in Reading - not very practical or attractive.
